Did you know that a country's domain extension can be a source of revenue?
There are two letters that appear before us without our noticing as we browse the internet. The ".com" at the end of a website's address is the best known. But anyone who watches the end of an address closely will see that there are many extensions besides ".com". ".tr" belongs to Turkey, ".de" to Germany, ".jp" to Japan. These two-letter extensions were distributed to every country as the internet infrastructure was being built. Their official name is "country-code top-level domain." In short, each country's signature on the internet.
The system was established in the late 1980s. The codes were assigned according to the alphabetical abbreviations of the countries. Anguilla received ".ai". Tuvalu, ".tv". Micronesia, ".fm". At the time, no extension carried any special value. They were simply the technical equivalents of the country names.
The revenue mechanism is simple. When a company buys a domain name, it pays a registration fee. A portion of this money goes to the country that owns the extension. For most countries it is a small line item. Their own extension draws interest only from people who do business specifically with that country.
Some extensions, however, are different. By chance, they happen to coincide with the abbreviation of a word that carries global meaning. ".tv" is television. ".ai" is artificial intelligence. ".fm" is radio frequency. The countries that own these extensions receive demand from every corner of the world. The platform using the address twitch.tv pays a small Pacific island. Artificial intelligence companies funnel money into the treasury of a Caribbean island.
In this article I will examine three islands. The birth charts of Anguilla and Tuvalu signaled, long in advance, that the two letters assigned to them would gain global meaning. I will show this pattern with the tools of classical mundane astrology. I have added Micronesia in order to draw the boundary on the scale of the gain. This island's chart carries indicators that produce revenue, but it also reveals, at the same time, the reasons why that revenue remains small.
Let us be clear about scale. Anguilla's population is around sixteen thousand. As of 2025, roughly half of its budget comes from ".ai" sales alone. Tuvalu's population is fewer than eleven thousand. Its ".tv" revenue is one-sixth of the island's GDP. Micronesia's ".fm" extension is favored by music streaming services and radio sites. Last.fm is the best known. But its revenue volume remains small alongside the other two.
Methodological Note
As the house system I use Alcabitius semi-arc. In the dignity system I take the Egyptian bounds and the Dorothean triplicity rulers as my basis.
ANGUILLA, December 19, 1980, 00:00 LMT, The Valley
There are three possible birth dates for Anguilla. The first is May 30, 1967, the date on which the people drove the Saint Kitts police off the island, celebrated today as the national day. The second is the short-lived Republic of Anguilla declared on July 11, 1967. The third, and the sound candidate from the standpoint of mundane astrology, is December 19, 1980. On this date Anguilla formally separated from Saint Kitts and Nevis and became a separate British dependent territory. The Anguilla Act 1980 received Royal Assent on December 16. The Appointed Day Order set December 19 as the effective date. In English law, the appointed day covers the whole day. The established convention in mundane astrology is 00:00 local time.
The skeleton of the chart

The 1980 great conjunction in the first house
The first noteworthy placement of the chart is the Jupiter-Saturn conjunction in the first house. This conjunction, which occurred at the 8th degree of Libra in 1980, is the renewal point of the twenty-year cycle, and Anguilla's birth sits exactly on that threshold.
There are three separate layers of dignity here. Saturn is in Libra in its sign of exaltation, and moreover, in a nocturnal sect, it is a participant in the earth triplicity. Jupiter is only a triplicity participant, but it is in another critical position: in mutual reception with Venus. Venus is in Sagittarius, in Jupiter's house; Jupiter is in Libra, in Venus's house. The two planets are in each other's houses, and although they cannot be in their own houses, they honor one another. In classical mundane astrology this configuration means that the nation's channels of gain and growth directly support one another. It passes the wealth of the two benefics from hand to hand.
In the classical mundane literature, the first house is how the nation was founded, the general structure of the people, the country's physical appearance, and how it appears from the outside. The simultaneous gathering of the two benefic stars in this house shows that Anguilla's existence has the character of a "structural-institutional treaty." Anguilla did not become independent in 1980; as a British dependent territory it gained a separate legal status. The foundation of its existence was a treaty from the very start.
The ruler of the first house: a combust Mercury in Sagittarius
The Ascendant is Virgo. The ruler of the first house is Mercury. This Mercury is in Sagittarius, in the third house, beneath the Sun. Within a seven-degree orb, Mercury is considered combust. A combust planet loses its light. On top of that, Sagittarius is Mercury's sign of detriment.
But Mercury is not entirely lost. In the Egyptian bounds, degrees 20 to 25 of Sagittarius belong to Mercury. Mercury, in its own bound, preserves its resilience with a minor dignity. Being in detriment gives it weakness in outward appearance; being in its own bound gives it inner strength.
I read this configuration as follows: Anguilla's significator of identity lodges in a foreign sign, disappears beneath the Sun, but is not altogether absent. The nation's selfhood speaks from a borrowed tongue, yet it holds its own place within the bounds of that tongue. Its name has lost its own meaning in the global consciousness; for the rest of the world it is not "Anguilla" but ".ai" that is at issue, which points to artificial intelligence. But for the island this loss has turned not into ruin but into gain. The dignity of the combust Mercury in its own bound shines precisely here.
The Sagittarius stellium in the third house: imports and communication
In the third house, the Sun, Mercury, and Venus are clustered in Sagittarius. In mundane astrology, the third house is the network of imports, coordination, transportation, and communication. Sagittarius is the sign of foreign languages, distant communication, and philosophy.
This stellium says the following: Anguilla's main channel of expression is rapid communication in a foreign language. ".ai" is exactly this. A short two-letter code, transmitted over digital protocols, part of a global technical language. The nation does not produce its own content; it coordinates the flow of information and demand coming from outside. The Sagittarius stellium in the third house shows that this coordination has a character that is at once alienated and knowledgeable.
The Moon in exaltation and Fortuna in the eighth house
In mundane astrology, the eighth house is the house of dangers, fear and stress, survival, debts, taxes, insurance, and civil servants' salaries. It is for this reason that investments and the collection of national income are also linked here.
In the Anguilla chart there are two critical indicators in this house. The Moon is in Taurus in its sign of exaltation, and moreover, in the nocturnal sect, it is the ruler of the earth triplicity. A double dignity. In mundane astrology the Moon is the significator of the people; in a nocturnal chart it is the chief luminary of the sect. The significator of the people being in exaltation in the eighth house says that the nation's material prosperity will grow directly through the structure of dangers, debts, and the tax system.
Fortuna is in the same house, at the first degree of Taurus. Its ruler Venus is in the third house in Sagittarius, in mutual reception with Jupiter. This chain is important. The significator of material fate (Fortuna) is in Taurus, a storing earth sign. Its ruler Venus is in the house of imports and communication. Venus is in mutual reception with Jupiter, and Jupiter is in the first house, in the body of the nation.
The gain follows this path: collections flowing from foreigners (8th house) become concrete in the character of Taurus, flow through Venus's channels of communication (3rd house), and reach the first house, the body of the nation, by way of Jupiter's mutual reception.
That roughly half of the budget in 2025 comes from ".ai" revenue is precisely the expression of this configuration. Artificial intelligence companies (the "collected money" in the eighth house) pay a fee for a two-letter code (the close communication in the third house); this money flows into the nation's treasury through Identity Digital.
The ninth house and foreigners
In mundane astrology, the ninth house is the house of exports, foreigners, media, culture and education, religion-belief-hope, and the philosophy of life. In Anguilla, the cusp of the ninth house is in Cancer. Its ruler, the Moon, is in the eighth house.
This placement of the Moon is very important: the ruler of the ninth house (that is, the significator of "foreigners") has fallen into the eighth house (that is, the house of "collections"). Foreigners come to Anguilla and pay tax. The meaning is direct: the registration fees paid by foreign companies (9th house) are the nation's source of income (8th house). This is a mundane, diagrammatic reading.
Mars in exaltation in the fourth house: the guardian of the homeland's soil
Mars is at the 20th degree of Capricorn, in the fourth house, in exaltation. In the classical literature, the 28th degree of Capricorn is Mars's exact degree of exaltation; in Anguilla, Mars is 8 degrees short of that point. Being in the sign of exaltation is enough, the dignity is complete.
In mundane astrology, the fourth house is the perception of the homeland, the roots, the past, all resources, and the underground. Mars in exaltation in the fourth house is a force that organizes Anguilla's soil and its financial infrastructure with structural discipline. Anguilla's directing of its ".ai" revenue toward concrete infrastructure line items such as reducing the national debt, building an airport, and renewable energy investments is precisely the expression of this Mars.
TUVALU, October 1, 1978, 00:00 LMT, Funafuti
Tuvalu gained its independence from the United Kingdom on October 1, 1978. The ceremony began on the island of Funafuti, just after midnight. The British flag was lowered, the Tuvalu flag was raised. In mundane astrology, using 00:00 local time for independence ceremonies is an established practice.
The skeleton of the chart
The Ascendant is at the 4th degree of Cancer. The MC is at the 9th degree of Aries. The sect is nocturnal. The Sun is at the 6th degree of Libra, in the 3rd house, in fall. The Moon is at the 16th degree of Virgo, in the 3rd house, nocturnal triplicity ruler. Mercury is at the 6th degree of Libra, in the 3rd house, nocturnal triplicity ruler and in its own bound. Venus is at the 17th degree of Scorpio, in the 5th house, in detriment. Mars is at the 7th degree of Scorpio, in the 4th house, in its own house and nocturnal triplicity ruler. Jupiter is at the 4th degree of Leo, in the 2nd house, nocturnal triplicity ruler and in its own bound. Saturn is at the 8th degree of Virgo, in the 3rd house, peregrine. Fortuna is at the 24th degree of Cancer, in the 1st house. Daimon is at the 14th degree of Gemini, in the 12th house.

The Cancer Ascendant and the universal ruler of the people
Since the Ascendant is Cancer, the ruler of the first house is the Moon. In mundane astrology the Moon is at the same time the universal ruler of the people. For Tuvalu this emphasis is especially important, because in the mundane literature the sign of Cancer means "the homeland's soil, the integrity of the country, underground resources, the country's past and how it will be destroyed." Tuvalu is under threat of disappearing with the rise of sea level. This connotation of the sign of Cancer points directly to the bodily existence of the nation.
The Moon is in the third house, in Virgo, at the sixteenth degree, nocturnal triplicity ruler. The Moon is in a foreign sign, but in the nocturnal sect its functional importance is high.
The third house is close communication, imports, the mother tongue, the transportation network. The ruler of the first house being in the third house shows that the nation will manifest its identity through communication. Tuvalu's physical reality already sits on this axis. An archipelago between Hawaii and Australia, far from the continents. Geographical isolation condemns the nation to communication in order to preserve its existence.
Mars in the fourth house, in its own house, triplicity ruler: Tuvalu's strongest placement
The single strongest placement of the Tuvalu chart is Mars. It is in Scorpio, in its own house, and moreover, in the nocturnal sect, it is the ruler of the water triplicity. A double dignity. Because the sect is nocturnal, this double strength gains its full value.
The fourth house is the nation's soil. Mars being in this house with full dignity means that the bodily-geographical existence of the nation has a warrior guardian. Tuvalu is a very small country, but the strength of Mars gives it the power to defend its own existence, to raise its own flag.
Jupiter in the second house and mutual reception by exaltation
The second house is the house of financial power, productive power, products, and the talents of the people. In Tuvalu's second house, Jupiter is in Leo. Jupiter is not in its sign of exaltation in Leo, because Jupiter's exaltation is in Cancer. But in Leo, Jupiter is the nocturnal ruler of the fire triplicity; in addition, degrees 0 to 6 of Leo are the Egyptian bounds belonging to Jupiter. So Jupiter is in double dignity in the second house: both triplicity ruler and in its own bound.
In classical mundane astrology this configuration is a treasury position in which the nation will be generously supported. As a great benefic with dignity in the second house, Jupiter is the structural power source of the national gain.
The most elegant configuration in the Tuvalu chart is between Mercury and Saturn. Mercury is in Libra, that is, in Saturn's sign of exaltation. Saturn is in Virgo, that is, in Mercury's sign of exaltation. The two planets receive one another, each honoring the other's exaltation. A mutual reception by exaltation.
Here Mercury is the planet of communication and the digital domain; Saturn that of structure, law, and the long-term institutional framework. The mutual reception of the two is the direct astrological expression of the structured broadcasting agreements Tuvalu has built through ".tv". The long-term contract made with GoDaddy is a structured royalty system; the mutual reception of Mercury and Saturn explains its foundation.
The eleventh house: television
In mundane astrology, the eleventh house is the house of alliances, pacts, parliament, future projects, and television. For Tuvalu this match is too pronounced to be a coincidence. ".tv" is television, the direct symbol of the eleventh house.
In the Tuvalu chart, the cusp of the eleventh house is in Taurus. Its ruler Venus is in the fifth house, in Scorpio, in detriment, retrograde. In mundane astrology the fifth house is the house of heroes, the people's morale and motivation, celebrities and high society, awards and honors, and works of art. The ruler of the eleventh house being in the fifth house means the direct connection of the television-entertainment-broadcasting line to one another. Twitch's address is twitch.tv; the world's largest live-streaming gaming platform carries Tuvalu's two letters. The house of broadcasting (5th house) is connected to the house of television (11th house) through Venus.
Because Venus is in detriment and retrograde, the flow is born with difficulty, Tuvalu did not build its own broadcasting industry, it made a royalty agreement. But the Mars in the fifth house, in its own house and triplicity ruler, surrounds this Venus in detriment and gives it strength.
Fortuna in the first house, but under threat from water
Fortuna is at the 24th degree of Cancer, in the first house. Its ruler, the Moon, is in the third house. The nation's material fate is in its own sign, in its own country, in its own body.
Here I must underline a danger. Fortuna in the first house is in Cancer. Cancer is the Moon's house and in mundane astrology it carries the meaning of "a country's past, history, and how it will be destroyed." The gathering of Tuvalu's body (1st house) with its material fate (Fortuna) in the same place, in a sign ruled by water, is read in two directions. Broadcasting revenue brings the body into being. At the same time, the body is under threat from water.
MICRONESIA, November 4, 1986, 00:01 local time, Palikir
Micronesia gained its independence with the entry into force of the Compact of Free Association it signed with the United States. According to the records of the U.S. Department of State, the effective date is November 4, 1986, 00:01 local time (Pohnpei). In earlier sources the date November 3, 1986 appears; this is according to Washington time. Since local time is what matters, I use November 4.
The skeleton of the chart
The Ascendant is at the 6th degree of Leo. The MC is at the 8th degree of Taurus. The sect is nocturnal. The Sun is at the 11th degree of Scorpio, in the 4th house, peregrine. The Moon is at the 28th degree of Scorpio, in the 4th house, in fall but triplicity participant. Mercury is at the 29th degree of Scorpio, in the 4th house, peregrine, retrograde, at an anaretic degree. Venus is at the 14th degree of Scorpio, in the 4th house, in detriment, retrograde. Mars is at the 15th degree of Aquarius, in the 7th house, peregrine. Jupiter is at the 13th degree of Pisces, in the 8th house, in its own house and its own bound, retrograde. Saturn is at the 8th degree of Sagittarius, in the 5th house, triplicity participant. Fortuna is at the 18th degree of Cancer, in the 12th house. Daimon is at the 23rd degree of Leo, in the 1st house.

Jupiter in its own house in the eighth house
The main indicator of gain in the Micronesia chart is the Jupiter in the eighth house. It is in Pisces in its own nocturnal house, and moreover, at the 13th degree, that is, in Jupiter's own Egyptian bound. A double dignity. This is the single strongest placement of the chart.
In mundane astrology, the eighth house is the house of dangers, fear and stress, survival, debts, taxes, and civil servants' salaries. When Jupiter is in the eighth house with full dignity, the nation has a strong channel of collection fed from outside. The greater part of Micronesia's budget is U.S. financial aid; at the same time, the ".fm" revenue is another expression of this Jupiter. Jupiter being retrograde shows that this gain flows "under external control." The nation does not manage it on its own; it receives it through another actor (the United States or the registry company).
The strength of this Jupiter explains why Micronesia produces a gain. By the same token, to understand why it remains "small in scale," one must look at the condition of the other planets.
Every other planet is weak
Apart from the Jupiter in the eighth house, every planet is either peregrine or weakened. The Sun is peregrine, Mercury is peregrine and anaretic, retrograde, Mars is peregrine, the Moon is in fall. Only Saturn is a triplicity participant, and the Moon is a triplicity participant.
This picture of weakness explains why the gain remains small. Jupiter alone funnels it in from outside, but the rest of the chart shows that the nation's capacity to grow and distribute this gain within itself is limited.
The ruler of the first house, the Sun, in the fourth house
The Ascendant is Leo. The ruler of the first house is the Sun. The Sun is in Scorpio, in the fourth house, peregrine. Scorpio is of the water element, the Sun is a fire planet.
In mundane astrology Scorpio means "survival, the matters the country suffers over, taboo subjects, foreign debts." The Scorpio stellium in the fourth house (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus all in Scorpio) shows that the root structure of the nation is built upon a "survival mechanism." Micronesia is scattered among more than 600 islands, far from the continents, one of the least visited countries in the world.
Mars in the seventh house: the U.S. agreement
In mundane astrology, the seventh house is the house of the ruling leader, open enemies, protocols between countries, war and agreements, and politicians.
In Micronesia's seventh house, Mars is in Aquarius, peregrine. Half the reason for Micronesia's existence is this: the U.S. agreement called the Compact of Free Association. Mars in Aquarius points to a cold, distant, institutional alliance. The country has no real independence; it is under contract with the United States. The Mars in the seventh house is the astrological expression of this situation.
Mars-Venus mutual antiscia: a hidden social system
The most elegant configuration of the Micronesia chart is the antiscia axis. Venus is at the 14th degree of Scorpio, its antiscion at the 16th degree of Aquarius. Mars is at the 15th degree of Aquarius, exactly upon Venus's antiscion, within an orb of just one degree. Likewise, Mars's antiscion is at the 15th degree of Scorpio, right beside Venus.
The two planets are in each other's antiscia. In mundane astrology this is the direct manifestation of the Scorpio-Aquarius axis. Scorpio indicates taboo subjects, survival mechanisms, the matters the country suffers over; Aquarius means social systems, mass communication, hidden teams, group psychology. The resolution of Scorpio matters comes through Aquarius, that is, what is hidden turns into a social system.
The mode of Micronesia's existence is exactly this: the isolation of the island geography (the hidden, closed structure of Scorpio) is resolved through the institutional agreement made with the United States (the social system of Aquarius). The value-and-gain connotation of Venus is connected with the attack-and-protection capacity of Mars through antiscia. This also explains why Micronesia's gain exists but why it cannot grow independently.
Fortuna in the twelfth house
Fortuna is at the 18th degree of Cancer, in the twelfth house. Its ruler, the Moon, is in the fourth house, in fall in Scorpio.
In mundane astrology, the twelfth house is the house of hospitals, leaving a mark on the world, the collective consciousness, the country's crimes and secrets, the conditions before founding, and secret groups. When Fortuna is here, the nation's material fate flows through a hidden and limited channel. Anguilla's Fortuna was in the eighth house, the house of collections (a large external gain); Micronesia's is in the twelfth house, the house of "leaving a mark," that is, the gain exists but is scattered, remains small, and is not visible.
The fact that Fortuna's ruler, the Moon, is also in fall closes the chain. The material fate is both in a weak house and in a weak ruler.
Daimon in the first house
Daimon is at the 23rd degree of Leo, in the first house. Its ruler, the Sun, is in the fourth house.
In mundane astrology, the first house means "how the country was founded, the general structure of the people, the country's physical appearance, and how it appears from the outside." In the Hellenistic literature, Daimon is the nation's indicator of "action and visibility." Its being in the first house, in Leo, the sovereign sign, points to the nation's capacity, however small, to manifest its own identity. Micronesia's modest global visibility through ".fm" is the expression of this Daimon. Enough to exist, limited to grow.
What the Three Charts Say
Three fundamental patterns emerge.
First, the eighth-house pattern. In Anguilla, Fortuna and the significator of the people, the Moon, are in the eighth house; the Moon is in exaltation and, moreover, nocturnal triplicity ruler. In Micronesia, Jupiter is in the eighth house in its own house. In mundane astrology the eighth house is the house of dangers, taxes, civil servants' salaries, investments, and money collected from outside. The channel of gain for both nations has fallen into this house. Tuvalu is different: Fortuna is in the first house, but with Mars in the fourth house with full dignity guarding the nation's bodily resource, and Jupiter in the second house building financial power. Tuvalu's economic structure works directly through its own body and its own treasury.
Second, the receptions. In Anguilla, Venus and Jupiter support one another through mutual reception (by house). In Tuvalu, Mercury and Saturn carry a mutual reception by exaltation. The charts of both nations have receptions that support the flow of gain. In Micronesia there is no significant mutual reception; there is only the Mars-Venus antiscia axis, a type of connection different from reception.
Third, the matching of the extension with the mundane house symbols. In Anguilla, the Sagittarius stellium in the third house carries the foreign-language, abbreviation character of ".ai". In Tuvalu, the eleventh house (television) connects through Venus to the fifth house (broadcasting, entertainment). In Micronesia, this matching is weak. The radio-frequency connotation of ".fm" does not fall in a strong house in the chart; only the Jupiter in the eighth house provides the collection from outside.
There was no deliberate strategy for the three nations. ICANN distributed the country codes with an alphabetical logic. It did not consider which country's chart could grow that code. Nor did it need to.
