About Planetary Retrogrades
Retrograde motion is when a planet appears to temporarily move backward through the zodiac as seen from Earth. This is an optical illusion; the planet does not actually go backward, but in classical astrology it is considered to represent the internalization, slowing down, or need for review of matters the planet governs.
Mercury Retrograde (☿℞)
Occurs 3-4 times a year and lasts an average of 21 days. Disruptions may occur in communication, short trips, commerce, contracts and technology. Traditionally, signing new contracts, making large purchases and starting important projects is not recommended. However, actions beginning with "re", reviewing, renewing, reconnecting, are supported during this period.
Venus Retrograde (♀℞)
Occurs approximately every 18 months and lasts an average of 40 days. Relationships, aesthetics, values and financial matters come to the forefront. Past relationships may resurface, value judgments may be questioned, and changes in aesthetic preferences may occur.
Mars Retrograde (♂℞)
Occurs approximately every 26 months and lasts an average of 72 days. Energy levels may drop, motivation is questioned, and issues of anger and willpower arise. Avoiding new ventures and aggressive actions is recommended.
Jupiter Retrograde (♃℞)
Goes retrograde once a year for approximately 120 days (4 months). Points to a period of inner growth, questioning of belief systems, and reassessment of opportunities. Inner development rather than outward expansion is supported.
Saturn Retrograde (♄℞)
Goes retrograde once a year for approximately 140 days (4.5 months). It is a period for reassessing responsibilities, boundaries and structures. Discipline and long-term goals may be questioned; structural issues from the past may resurface.
