A Summer Quarter Reading for Ankara
On June 21, 2026, at 11:24, the Sun enters Cancer. I am casting a chart for this moment using Ankara's coordinates. In the mundane tradition, a seasonal ingress chart shows the collective agenda of the coming three months.
We could say this quarter's chart is built on a single tension. On one side stands the 11th house: the assembly, allies, and foreign support, the quarter's house of gain. On the other stands the 8th house: debt, loss, and payment pressure, the house of cost. These two houses pull against each other throughout the quarter. The whole story is knotted in this contest.
I am not ending this piece with interpretation alone. At the close, I leave five dated predictions. On September 23, at the Libra Ingress, I will return to this page and state plainly which of them held.
Method
The systematic doctrine of ingress charts comes from Medieval Islamic astrology; we find excellent examples of it in Abu Ma'shar, in Bonatti, and in the English tradition, in Ramesey's Astrologia Munda. Readers who want to develop their own skill in this area can consult these sources.
Of course, we work with a few rules. The year's principal chart is the Aries Ingress, and the rising sign at that moment determines how long the chart remains valid. If a fixed sign is rising, the chart governs the whole year; if a mutable sign is rising, six months; if a cardinal sign is rising, three months. At the 2026 Aries Ingress, 16°01' Virgo was rising in Ankara. Virgo is a mutable sign, so that chart remains valid until the Libra Ingress. The Cancer Ingress chart before us sits beneath it, a subordinate chart detailing the summer quarter.
For significators, I use the classical planets. In a daytime chart, the Sun signifies the executive, the 10th house signifies authority, and the Ascendant together with the Moon signify the populace. The aspects the Moon completes within its own sign will also narrate the quarter's events.
The Chart
The Cancer Ingress occurs on June 21, 2026, at 11:24. The house system is Alcabitius, and the chart is a daytime chart.

The ingress falls near local noon, with the Sun directly overhead in Ankara. The ingress gains a Turkey-specific emphasis. Both the Ascendant and the Midheaven fall in signs ruled by Mercury. This makes Mercury the direct ruler of the quarter.
Lord of the Year
The quarter's ruler is Mercury, because Mercury governs both the rising sign Virgo and the Midheaven sign Gemini. Mercury is the chart's ruler, but Mercury's own condition is weak. It is peregrine, a stranger, in Cancer, meaning it holds no dignity there; moreover, within a few days it will station and turn retrograde.
What partly keeps Mercury standing as chart lord, I would say, is the reception it receives from around it. The Moon is in Virgo, both Mercury's own house and its exaltation sign. Mercury, in turn, is in Cancer, which belongs to the Moon. So the Moon and Mercury mutually receive each other, and moreover, the Moon exalts Mercury. The populace's significator and the Lord of the Year have accepted one another. There is also the fact that Mercury is positioned in the bounds of Jupiter, that is, in the degrees Jupiter governs, right beside it, but I will explain that further along in this piece.
In short, the Lord of the Year is weak in itself but supported from outside. On its own it has no dignity. What carries it is the reception of the populace and Jupiter beside it. The Moon is in the 1st house, angular. The populace in this quarter is not a spectator, but stands at the very center of the stage. This reciprocity between the administration and the populace forms the narrative of the entire quarter.
Refranation and the Transfer of Light
In the 11th house, Jupiter and Mercury sit side by side. At first glance this can look like a clean and beneficial placement, because Jupiter here is in exaltation, the chart's most powerful planet, and moreover the planet of abundance, law, and treasury. Mercury beside it is the Lord of the Year, the state's negotiating hand. Both are in the 11th house, the house of allies and of the state's treasury. What sets the quarter's agenda describes an agreement arriving through an ally's hand that credits the treasury with a gain.
But there is a subtlety. Two planets sharing the same house does not mean a bond has formed between them. To speak of a bond, the aspect between them must complete. If it does not complete, the closeness remains only apparent. We call this condition refranation.
In short, refranation is when two planets are approaching an aspect, and before the aspect completes, one of them stations and turns retrograde. The aspect never occurs; the promise given is not kept. We can count this as a sign of a matter begun but never finished.
In this chart, Mercury is at 23°36' Cancer and moving toward Jupiter ahead of it; Jupiter is at 28°07' Cancer, four and a half degrees away. Mercury is approaching, but it is also slowing down, because it is about to station. It closes the gap to three and a half degrees, then stations on June 30 and turns retrograde. The conjunction never completes. Moreover, on that same day Jupiter moves into Leo; the possibility of the aspect occurring closes from both ends at once. The Lord of the Year reaches for the gain but withdraws its hand just as it is about to grasp it.
The mundane correspondence is clear. Reading the 11th house as favorable on its own would be misleading. The gain exists, and its source is identifiable. But the administration cannot reach it directly.
Still, the matter does not end here, because another hand completes the bond that could not form. We call this the transfer of light. A fast-moving planet, separating from one and approaching the other, carries the first planet's light to the second. In this way it joins, indirectly, two planets that could not connect directly.
In this chart, that fast planet is the Moon. Shortly after the ingress, it first completes its sextile with Mercury. Then, within a few hours, it completes one with Jupiter as well. It takes Mercury's light and carries it to Jupiter. The populace forms the bond that the administration could not. The gain arrives in the end, but not by the administration's hand, through the populace's mediation.
Two details make this clearer. First, along the way the Moon also makes a trine to Mars in the 9th house; the populace's mediation is therefore not frictionless, but passes through the friction present in the courts and foreign relations. Yet this aspect is a trine, a harmonious one; the friction does not break the bond, it only colors it. Second, the sextile between the Moon and Mercury does not refranate. This aspect completes forty minutes after the ingress, before Mercury stations. This means the bridge between the administration and the populace is sound. The only thing that withdraws is the administration's direct grasp of the gain.
The Season's Triplicity Rulers
We divide the season's chart into three. According to Abu Ma'shar, each segment is overseen by a triplicity ruler. The first governs the opening, the second the middle, the third the close. Each ruler's condition shows the course of its own segment. The chart is a daytime chart, and Cancer belongs to the water triplicity. According to Dorotheus, this triplicity's day ruler is Venus, its night ruler is Mars, and its participating ruler is the Moon.
The ruler of the opening is Venus, at 9°09' Leo, on the cusp of the 12th house and in foreign territory. The only relief is that it is in its own bounds. The opening is weak and hidden, but it has just enough strength to sustain itself. The ruler of the middle is Mars, at 24°38' Taurus, both in fall and in Saturn's bounds, doubly burdened. The season's harshest segment is also its middle; the contest in the courts and foreign relations falls here. The ruler of the close is the Moon, a stranger at 23°16' Virgo, but angular in the 1st house and in Mars's bounds. It has no dignity, but because it stands angular, the populace remains active to the very end, even under pressure.
There is a detail worth noting here. Some sources count this triplicity's day ruler as Mars and its night ruler as Venus. This swaps the owners of the first two segments. But whichever scheme is chosen, both planets are debilitated: one a stranger in the 12th house, the other in fall in the 9th house. No segment has a strong ruler; this conclusion is unaffected by the disputed assignment.
The Moon's Course
Within Virgo, the Moon makes three aspects in succession. First a sextile with Mercury, then a trine with Mars, and finally another sextile with Jupiter. Its square to the Sun, however, completes only at the end of Virgo, on the threshold of Libra. During this time the Moon is increasing in light and moving slightly slower than average.
This sequence tells us the story of the quarter's events. First the populace sits at the table with the administration. Then contact with Mars in the 9th house brings a difficult but workable movement in the courts and foreign relations. Then the sextile with Jupiter describes support arriving from the assembly and allied circles. The final square with the Sun, however, shows that after the reconciliation, friction begins between the executive and the populace. In short, the first half of the quarter is inclined toward reconciliation, the second half toward tension.
Houses
11th House: the Assembly and Allies. The chart's noblest planet, Jupiter in exaltation, is here. Mercury, the Lord of the Year, is in the same house. Legislation, alliances, and foreign support form the quarter's house of gain. But Jupiter is at 28 degrees and moves into Leo on June 30, leaving its exaltation; the gain is compressed into the quarter's first ten days. Moreover, as we saw above, the Lord of the Year reaches for this gain and withdraws its hand. The gain reaches the house not directly, but through the Moon's carrying, by the populace's hand.
8th House: Debts and Losses. Saturn in its fall sits right on the house cusp. The burden of debt and payment pressure is the quarter's unchanging theme. Because Saturn moves slowly, this matter is not resolved within the quarter.
9th House: Courts and Foreign Relations. Mars is in fall in Taurus; there is a stubborn and slow-moving contest in this domain. The Moon's trine softens the tension, but because Mars has no dignity, the outcome is not especially fruitful.
2nd and 12th Houses: The Treasury and Closed Doors. Venus, ruler of the 2nd house, is on the cusp of the 12th house and in the Sun's sign. The management of the economy gathers more in closed-door negotiations than in visible institutions. Treasury decisions reach the public late and incompletely.
Mercury Turns Retrograde
Mercury stations at 26° Cancer on June 30, a few degrees short of Jupiter, and turns retrograde. It returns to direct motion on July 24. The Lord of the Year turns retrograde on just the ninth day of the quarter. This shows that whatever was bound at the opening will come back to the table throughout July. Jupiter also changes sign that same day, so the quarter's true character only becomes clear at the start of July. The definitive outcome does not arrive before August 7, when the shadow period ends.
Contacts with the Country's Chart
In Turkey's natal chart, the Moon is at 29°55' Gemini, the sign's final degree. The ingress Sun passes directly over this degree, with an orb under five minutes, as it enters Cancer. The quarter's opening moment directly illuminates the state's populace significator. The natal Moon is both ruler of the Ascendant and in the natal 12th house. This is why public opinion and the population's agenda, particularly the refugee file, sit squarely at the center of the quarter. The second contact is at Mars. The ingress Mars makes an opposition to natal Jupiter, with an orb under half a degree. The tension between the desire for expansion in foreign resources and law, and restriction upon it, is confirmed on the natal plane as well.
Arabic Parts
The three hermetic parts reinforce the narrative. The Part of Spirit is at 19°35' Gemini, in the 10th house, gathering will and initiative in the executive. The Part of Necessity is at 25°24' Capricorn, opposite the Lord of the Year Mercury with a two-degree orb; July's renewed negotiation will proceed out of necessity, not goodwill. The Part of Courage is at 24°22' Pisces, opposite the Moon in the 1st house with a one-degree orb; the populace's initiative will be tested.
The cyclical parts are also in agreement. The Part of Victory is at 10°59' Libra, in the 1st house, the house of the populace; whatever is gained this quarter is gained with the public's consent. The Part of Truce is at 13°12' Cancer, in the 11th house where Mercury and Jupiter stand; it supports the idea that the renewed negotiation will end in reconciliation. The Part of War, meanwhile, is at 9°37' Aquarius, on the cusp of the house of armies; it signals that the tension will be resolved at the table, not on the field.
The truly striking data point is the Part of Nemesis at 5°18' Taurus and the Part of Conquest at 4°50' Taurus, the two in conjunction with an orb under half a degree, in the 8th house. Together they fall exactly opposite Turkey's natal Sun at 5°18' Scorpio. The quarter's claim to gain and its house of cost are knotted together in the same file, in the domain of debt and loss. And this knot touches the state's very center directly.
The 8th house becomes this chart's recurring theme, because four independent factors converge on the same house. Saturn in its fall sits right at the house's entrance; the Parts of Nemesis and Conquest fall within it; and the September 1 Mars-Saturn square will touch this same entrance degree for degree. The country's natal Sun stands opposite it as well.
The opposite pole repeats the pattern too. In the 11th house, the mirror image of the eighth's gathering appears. Jupiter in exaltation, the Lord of the Year Mercury, and the Parts of Truce and of the Armies; all four together in the house of allies and reconciliation. The chart has two centers of gravity: the 11th house is the constructive pole, the 8th house the restrictive pole. The bridge connecting the two to the populace is the reception between Mercury and the Moon. The quarter's real tension lies between these two poles. The gain arrives through the channel of allies and the assembly, while the cost accumulates in the house of debt and loss.
The Season's Weather Tendency
Classical weather reading, at a seasonal ingress, is based on the Moon. The element of the Moon's sign, the nature of its ruler, and the planet it conjoins show the season's weather character. The Moon is at 23°16' Virgo. Virgo is an earth element, dry and cold. Read alone, the season leans toward drought and coolness rather than rainfall. But the Moon is not read alone; it is read together with its ruler. Virgo's ruler is Mercury, the planet of wind and variability, and moreover, in this chart, about to turn retrograde. Combined, the underlying tendency stays dry and cool, but unstable and windy; conditions change quickly.
Putting it all together: late June is humid and changeable, with a high chance of rainfall; July and after is dry, hot, and windy, but Mercury's retrograde motion paints an unstable picture.
Dated Predictions
Announcement, suspension, and an indirect return. In the quarter's first ten days, a foreign-sourced agreement or package requiring parliamentary approval is announced. But what is decisive here is the refranation. Because the Lord of the Year reaches for the gain and withdraws its hand on June 30, this file does not proceed in its original form, directly. It is suspended throughout July, then returns between July 21 and 28, changed and diluted, through an intermediary's hand. For this to be counted a hit, all three stages must occur. It would be surprising if the agreement were concluded smoothly, directly, and in its original form.
A foreign lawsuit and a loss. Around the new Moon in July, I expect a loss against the country in an international court or arbitration file. Not an ordinary lawsuit story; the ruling needs to occupy the country's agenda and involve a material loss.
A fight over resources. Mars crosses the ingress Midheaven on July 13. That week, I expect a foreign dispute rooted in energy, drilling, or maritime jurisdiction to reach the top of the agenda, met with a military move. Not a clash, but a show of force, or merely a diplomatic note.
A disclosure and the street. Mars crosses the natal Moon on August 11 and moves into its fall sign; the next day, the total eclipse at 20° Leo falls into the chart's 12th house. Between August 8 and 16, I expect a disclosure from closed institutions, and within the same week, a mass reaction tied to it.
A water disaster and a financial response. On September 1, 2026, Mars makes an exact square to Saturn from 13°40' Cancer. Both are in their own sign of fall: Mars in Cancer, Saturn at 13°39' Aries. At this time Saturn is sixteen minutes from the ingress's 8th house entrance; the square lands right at the door of the house of losses. Moreover, Mars makes this square not from just anywhere, but from within the ingress's 11th house, and it enters this house on August 26, right at the start of the window. What I read from this is a disaster carrying the water element. The window I expect is between August 27 and September 6, with the weight around September 1.
