As an inner planet, Venus can never stray beyond a certain angle from the Sun: sometimes it appears in the west after sunset (evening star), sometimes in the east before dawn (morning star), and in between it is lost in the Sun's light. Below are each year's greatest elongations, inferior and superior conjunctions, and combust periods.
